ESG Data You Can Explain

Test the numbers, source records, and controls behind sustainability claims before they reach investors, boards, or customers.

More Credible Disclosures

Reported ESG metrics are linked to source evidence, giving decision-makers a clearer basis for presenting environmental and social performance externally.

Fewer Unsupported Claims

Statements that cannot be traced to records, calculations, or defined methodologies are identified before they weaken a sustainability report.

Better Board Visibility

Directors receive a factual view of data quality, governance ownership, and the reporting areas that need attention before approval.

Stronger Reporting Controls

The review highlights where collection, approval, and documentation processes need improvement for the next reporting cycle.

Sustainability Data Review

Ahmed Mahfoudh Chartered Accountants & Auditors brings more than 13 years of UAE financial experience to evidence-led reporting work. I look beyond the finished ESG report and examine how figures were collected, calculated, reviewed, and approved. In Abu Dhabi, sustainability disclosures may be relevant to listed companies, investors, lenders, government-related entities, and supply-chain requirements. The review gives management a documented view of the records behind each selected claim and where stronger controls are needed.

Reporting Starts With Source Evidence

Many ESG reports look complete until someone asks where a metric came from and who checked it.

AMC Sami Abdallah Partners team
Reported numbers are traced back

I select reported metrics and trace them to the source records, calculations, assumptions, and approvals used to prepare them. This can include utility bills, meter logs, payroll records, safety registers, policy documents, meeting records, and internal reporting schedules.

Methodology is examined carefully

A reported number is only useful when its boundary and calculation method are clear. I review whether the metric is defined consistently, whether source data matches that definition, and whether changes from prior reporting periods are explained rather than hidden.

Findings are usable by management

The report distinguishes missing evidence from a weak process or an unclear disclosure. Each finding identifies the relevant metric or control, the evidence reviewed, and a practical next action, helping management decide what to correct before the next reporting deadline.

ESG Audit Questions In Abu Dhabi

Key points on scope, data, standards, timing, and reporting expectations before an ESG review begins.

Is an ESG audit mandatory?

A standalone ESG audit is not required for every private company in Abu Dhabi. However, listed entities, regulated businesses, investors, lenders, and major customers may require ESG disclosure or independent review under their own rules.

What does an ESG audit test?

The audit tests selected environmental, social, and governance claims against source evidence and reporting controls. The scope may include emissions, energy use, workforce metrics, health and safety data, board oversight, and published statements.

Which emissions are usually reviewed?

Scope 1 covers direct emissions from owned or controlled sources, while Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from purchased energy. Scope 3 covers other value-chain emissions and usually requires data from suppliers, travel providers, or customers.

Does Abu Dhabi require emissions verification?

Abu Dhabi’s MRV framework is expected to require independent third-party verification of emissions reports from 2027 for the 2026 reporting year. Businesses affected by that requirement should establish data controls before the reporting cycle closes.

What evidence supports ESG figures?

Evidence may include utility invoices, meter readings, fuel logs, waste records, HR reports, safety registers, policies, meeting minutes, and calculation files. A reported figure should be traceable to a defined source and methodology.

Which reporting standards apply?

The appropriate framework depends on the reporting purpose and stakeholder requirement. Common references include GRI Standards, ISSB standards such as IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, and ISO 14064 for greenhouse gas reporting.

How long does an ESG audit take?

Timing depends on the number of sites, metrics, reporting period, and quality of available evidence. Reviewing a full 12-month reporting cycle normally requires data collection, testing, management clarification, and final reporting stages.

What happens when data is incomplete?

Incomplete data is recorded as a finding and assessed against the stated metric or reporting criteria. Management may need to correct the disclosure, improve the data trail, or clearly state the limitation rather than publish an unsupported figure.

Can an audit improve an ESG rating?

No audit can guarantee an ESG rating outcome because rating agencies use their own methodologies and data sources. The audit can improve the quality, traceability, and consistency of the information available for assessment.

How is ESG audit pricing set?

Fees are based on the reporting boundary, number of sites, selected ESG metrics, reporting framework, and evidence volume. Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions often require different data sources, which affects the review effort.
