Abu Dhabi Bookkeeping Practice
Ahmed Mahfoudh Chartered Accountants & Auditors brings more than 13 years of UAE financial experience to bookkeeping work in Abu Dhabi. I build a practical monthly recordkeeping process around the documents your business creates: invoices, supplier bills, receipts, bank transactions, credit notes, and payment records. Each item needs a clear place in the ledger and a document that explains it. That is especially important when businesses use multiple currencies, trade internationally, or need current records for VAT, Corporate Tax, financing, or management reporting.
How Bookkeeping Stays Traceable
The common mistake is entering transactions quickly, then discovering that no document or explanation supports the balance later.
Entries start with source documents
Ledger entries are recorded against available invoices, receipts, bank activity, credit notes, and payment records. This keeps the accounting record connected to the underlying business activity and makes it easier to investigate a balance or transaction after the month has closed.
Currencies are recorded consistently
Foreign-currency sales, purchases, payments, and balances are recorded with their transaction details and supported by the relevant documents. Consistent currency recording is important because exchange movements can affect supplier balances, customer balances, and reported expenses.
Reconciliation exceptions are listed
Unmatched bank items, old supplier balances, customer overpayments, unreconciled transfers, and missing documents are shown separately for review. They are not buried in a general account simply to make the books appear balanced.

Bookkeeping Questions For Abu Dhabi
The details to agree before handing over day-to-day financial recordkeeping.
What does bookkeeping cover?
Bookkeeping covers recording and coding transactions, maintaining supplier and customer ledgers, reconciling bank accounts, organizing source documents, and preparing current ledger information. It creates the records used for financial reporting, tax work, and audit support.
How often are books updated?
Frequency depends on transaction volume, payment activity, reporting needs, and VAT obligations. A business with daily sales or frequent supplier payments may need weekly processing, while a lower-volume business may operate on an agreed monthly cycle.
Can you reconcile bank accounts?
Yes. Bank reconciliation compares the bank statement with recorded receipts, payments, transfers, charges, and deposits. The process identifies missing entries, duplicates, timing differences, and items that need supporting documents.
Do you handle multiple currencies?
Yes. Foreign-currency transactions can be recorded with the original currency, transaction date, supporting invoice, payment amount, and related ledger entry. Exchange differences need to be considered when foreign-currency balances are remeasured for reporting.
Can you organize VAT records?
Yes. Bookkeeping can organize sales invoices, supplier invoices, credit notes, and transaction records used for VAT review and return preparation. VAT registration is mandatory when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months or are expected to exceed that amount within 30 days.
How long must records be kept?
VAT records generally need to be retained for at least five years. Relevant Corporate Tax records and documents must generally be retained for at least seven years after the end of the relevant tax period.
Can you fix delayed bookkeeping?
Yes. Backlog work starts by identifying the unrecorded periods, bank accounts, missing documents, and unclear balances. Available evidence such as bank statements, invoices, supplier statements, and receipts is then used to rebuild the records.
Is bookkeeping the same as accounting?
No. Bookkeeping records and organizes transactions, while accounting reviews, reconciles, adjusts, interprets, and reports that information. Both are needed, but the bookkeeping record is the starting point for reliable accounting.
How is bookkeeping priced?
Fees depend on transaction volume, number of bank accounts, currencies, supplier and customer invoices, record condition, reporting frequency, and backlog work required. A business with 30 monthly transactions has a different scope from one with daily sales and multiple payment channels.
