Know What You Actually Hold

Replace uncertain system quantities with an independent record of stock on hand and the causes behind material differences.

Reliable Quantity Evidence

Management receives count evidence for the stock physically present at agreed warehouses, stores, yards, or other inventory locations.

Clearer Variance Causes

Book-to-physical differences are recorded and investigated to identify timing issues, coding errors, shrinkage, damaged stock, or process failures.

Better Inventory Reporting

Finance teams can use verified quantities and variance reports when preparing inventory schedules, management accounts, or year-end financial information.

Tighter Movement Controls

The review identifies weaknesses around receiving, dispatch, transfers, adjustments, and count procedures that create repeated stock inaccuracies.

Independent Inventory Verification

Ahmed Mahfoudh Chartered Accountants & Auditors brings more than 13 years of UAE financial experience to stock verification assignments. I plan the count around the way your inventory moves, whether goods are held in an Abu Dhabi warehouse, retail outlet, project site, cold store, or third-party location. The work includes both physical observation and record testing, because a count alone does not explain why the system and the floor disagree. You receive documented results that finance and operations can work from.

Count Both Directions Carefully

A warehouse can look organised while the inventory system still contains quantities that do not exist.

The floor and system are compared

I test from the physical floor to the stock record and from the stock record back to the floor. Using both directions helps identify stock that exists but is not recorded, as well as book quantities that cannot be located during verification.

Stock movement is controlled during counts

Goods received, dispatched, transferred, returned, or adjusted during the count are logged and considered in the reconciliation. Unrecorded movement is a common reason for a count difference, even where the physical counting itself was accurate.

Variances are not simply listed

Material variances are grouped by location, item type, value, and likely cause where evidence is available. This gives management a useful basis for deciding whether the issue relates to timing, master data, receiving, dispatch, loss, or stock handling.

Stock Audit Questions In Abu Dhabi

What to know about physical counts, inventory variances, planning, valuation, and the final audit report.

What is a stock audit?

A stock audit compares physical inventory on hand with the quantities recorded in stock sheets or inventory systems. It can also review count procedures, stock movement controls, and the causes of material variances.

Which businesses need stock audits?

Any business holding goods for sale, production, projects, or distribution can require verification. Warehouses, retailers, manufacturers, contractors, logistics providers, and food businesses often use counts to support financial reporting and operational controls.

How often should stock be counted?

The right frequency depends on stock value, movement volume, loss risk, and reporting requirements. Some businesses use cycle counts throughout the year, while an annual count commonly supports year-end inventory reporting.

Must operations stop during counting?

Stock movement does not always need to stop, but it must be controlled and recorded during the count. Receiving, dispatch, transfers, and returns after the count point need reconciliation to avoid false differences.

What is floor-to-system testing?

Floor-to-system testing starts with a physical item and checks whether it appears in the inventory record. System-to-floor testing starts with the record and checks whether the item can be found physically; both tests are needed for completeness.

What causes inventory variances?

Variances may result from unrecorded stock movement, incorrect item codes, counting mistakes, damaged goods, theft, incorrect units of measure, or timing differences. The audit records the available evidence before assigning a cause.

Are damaged goods included in the audit?

Yes, damaged, expired, obsolete, and slow-moving stock can be separately identified during the count. Under IAS 2, inventories are measured at the lower of cost and net realisable value.

Can the audit review stock valuation?

Yes, valuation procedures can be reviewed alongside quantity verification where included in scope. IAS 2 permits FIFO or weighted-average cost formulas for ordinarily interchangeable inventory and does not permit LIFO.

What records should be available?

Stock reports, item masters, bin locations, count sheets, barcode records, receiving notes, dispatch notes, transfer records, and prior reconciliations should be available. UAE companies generally retain accounting books and supporting documents for at least five years.

How is a stock audit priced?

Fees depend on the number of locations, stock lines, storage conditions, count dates, system access, and expected variance work. Multiple Abu Dhabi sites or third-party warehouses usually require separate count planning and reconciliation.
