Make Each VAT Figure Defensible
Check the transaction, tax treatment, evidence, and return entry together instead of relying on one number from the accounting system.
Clearer Tax Treatment
Sales, purchases, imports, discounts, and unusual transactions are reviewed against VAT rules before they are included in a return.
Better Input Tax Support
Eligible recovery is assessed against tax invoices, business use, payment evidence, and the connection to taxable business activity.
More Controlled VAT Returns
VAT return figures are reconciled to accounting records and supporting schedules so material movements can be explained before filing.
Earlier Compliance Corrections
VAT gaps are identified while records and transaction details are still available, giving management time to assess the proper correction route.

VAT Advice Based On Records
Ahmed Mahfoudh Chartered Accountants & Auditors has more than 13 years of UAE financial experience. We approach VAT consultancy through the transactions and records behind the return, not only the final tax payable figure. For Abu Dhabi businesses, that can include domestic sales, imports, cross-emirate purchases, free-zone activity, customer credit notes, and supplier invoices. We review how each item was coded and supported, then explain the VAT position in plain language for finance teams and business owners.
Review The Transaction Before The Return
The most common VAT problem starts when a transaction is coded quickly and only questioned after the filing deadline.
We trace return figures to records
We reconcile VAT return values to the sales ledger, purchase ledger, general ledger, import documents, and supporting schedules. Where a balance changes materially, we identify the underlying transaction or adjustment instead of accepting a system total without evidence.
We test input tax eligibility
Input VAT is not recoverable simply because an invoice includes VAT. We review whether there is a valid tax invoice, whether the expense relates to taxable business activity, and whether any restriction or apportionment needs to be considered before recovery is claimed.
We explain issues before filing
Where tax treatment is unclear or records are incomplete, we set out the practical issue and evidence needed for management review. This gives the business a chance to correct coding, obtain missing documents, or assess a disclosure before the VAT return is submitted.

VAT Consultant Questions In Abu Dhabi
Important answers on VAT registration, invoices, recovery, filing dates, errors, FTA queries, records, and fees.
When is VAT registration mandatory?
VAT registration is mandatory when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 in the previous 12 months or are expected to exceed AED 375,000 in the next 30 days. Voluntary registration may be available from AED 187,500.
What is the UAE VAT rate?
The standard UAE VAT rate is 5%. Some supplies may be zero-rated or exempt, and the distinction affects whether input tax can be recovered.
When are VAT returns due?
VAT returns and any payment due are generally submitted by the 28th day after the end of the tax period. The tax period shown in the FTA registration profile determines whether returns are monthly or quarterly.
What supports input VAT recovery?
A valid tax invoice, evidence of the business expense, and a link to taxable supplies are normally needed to support input tax recovery. Input tax on certain expenses, including some entertainment and motor-vehicle costs, may be restricted.
Are zero-rated and exempt supplies alike?
No. Both may have a 0% VAT outcome for the customer, but zero-rated supplies can generally support input tax recovery while exempt supplies generally do not. The classification must be assessed under the UAE VAT rules.
Can VAT on imports be reviewed?
Yes. Import VAT records can be reviewed against customs declarations, FTA data, purchase invoices, and accounting entries. The business needs supporting evidence for any import VAT reported or recovered.
What if a filed return has an error?
A material error may require a Voluntary Disclosure through the FTA’s prescribed process. The correct action depends on the error type, amount, tax period, and whether the FTA has already opened a review.
Can you support an FTA query?
Yes. We can organise the requested documents, reconcile the relevant VAT figures, and prepare factual explanations of transactions. Formal representation before the FTA requires the appropriate authorised tax-agent arrangement where applicable.
How long must VAT records be kept?
VAT records are generally retained for at least five years. Records can include tax invoices, credit notes, import documents, accounting ledgers, VAT returns, and documents supporting input tax recovery.
How is VAT consultancy priced?
Fees depend on transaction volume, VAT periods, industry, imports or exports, number of registrations, record condition, and whether returns or historical reviews are involved. A VAT health check covering several prior periods requires more work than one return review.
