DMCC Accounting From Abu Dhabi
Ahmed Mahfoudh Chartered Accountants & Auditors has more than 13 years of UAE financial experience. DMCC is a Dubai free zone, while a company’s directors, finance team, employees, or commercial operations may be based in Abu Dhabi. We keep the accounting focused on the DMCC legal entity, its documented transactions, and its reporting obligations. Our work covers the routine discipline that often gets missed: correct period posting, reconciled balances, foreign-currency treatment, and financial schedules that can be explained when reviewed.
Treat DMCC Records As Entity Records
A frequent mistake is mixing the DMCC company’s books with activity, costs, and records held by teams in another emirate.
We separate entity activity properly
We review which invoices, contracts, bank accounts, expenses, and revenue streams belong to the DMCC company. That separation matters when the company is managed from Abu Dhabi, because informal group or owner costs can otherwise enter the books without clear support or treatment.
We close the books in sequence
We complete the monthly accounting cycle through transaction posting, bank reconciliation, balance review, adjustment processing, and management reporting. Working in this order makes it easier to identify a missing document or unexplained balance before it is carried into the next period.
We build from source records
VAT files, Corporate Tax schedules, financial statements, and audit requests should begin with the underlying accounting trail. We retain reconciliations and support with the relevant ledger balances, so important numbers can be traced instead of explained from memory.

DMCC Accounting Questions In Abu Dhabi
Key answers on entity records, free-zone audits, tax, currencies, reporting, and monthly accounting work.
Can Abu Dhabi teams manage DMCC accounts?
Yes. DMCC is located in Dubai, but its companies can be managed by owners and finance teams based in Abu Dhabi. The accounting records must remain attributable to the DMCC legal entity and its business activity.
Does DMCC require annual audited accounts?
DMCC companies are generally required to submit audited financial statements annually under the free zone’s rules. The audit must be performed by a DMCC-approved auditor, while accounting support prepares the records and schedules needed for that audit.
Is DMCC a Qualifying Free Zone?
Yes. DMCC is a Qualifying Free Zone for UAE Corporate Tax purposes. A company may access the 0% rate only on qualifying income and only when it meets all conditions to be a Qualifying Free Zone Person.
Are audited statements needed for 0% tax?
Yes. A Qualifying Free Zone Person must maintain audited financial statements to access the 0% Corporate Tax rate on qualifying income. The requirement applies even where revenue is below AED 50 million.
When is VAT registration required?
VAT registration is mandatory when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months or are expected to exceed that amount in the next 30 days. Voluntary registration may be available from AED 187,500.
How are foreign currencies accounted for?
IAS 21 requires foreign-currency transactions to be recorded using the exchange rate at the transaction date. Foreign-currency monetary balances are retranslated at the reporting-date rate, with exchange differences recognised as required.
How long must tax records be retained?
Corporate Tax records and supporting documents are generally retained for seven years after the end of the relevant tax period. VAT records are generally retained for at least five years.
Can you prepare an auditor request pack?
Yes. We prepare trial balances, ledgers, bank reconciliations, receivable and payable schedules, fixed-asset records, and supporting documents. The appointed DMCC-approved auditor remains responsible for the independent audit and opinion.
What if prior accounts are incomplete?
We identify the missing periods, balances, bank accounts, invoices, and transaction sources before setting a catch-up plan. Prior balances must be reconciled because errors carried forward can affect current financial statements and tax calculations.
How is DMCC accounting priced?
Fees are based on transaction volume, number of currencies, bank accounts, staff, VAT status, reporting needs, and condition of prior records. A company claiming the Qualifying Free Zone Person regime may need additional reporting and audit preparation work.
